If you manage to finally release the plate from it's metal cage you now must take a sharp knife and jab it into the grooves filled with wet, slippery potato bits while trying not to stab yourself in the eye accidentally. Bits of potato (especially the skin) get jammed in between the little squares/circles and you either have to use a stiff brush which flings bits of potato all over the kitchen or try to unscrew the plate (usually with a butter knife) in a tiny wee space between the screwhead and the bracket.

Not sure why anyone would design a fry cutter that can't be cleaned! The bottom part (the blades) has wingnuts which unscrew easily for cleaning but the top section does not. ClothingĬommercial restaurant fry cutters (the wall mounted kind) are extremely hard to clean.
